I don't see anything wrong with believing something on the basis of authority. For example, we know that Spain exists through maps, satellite imagery, news stories, etc. without ever having been there personally. It is not even possible to question everything you have learned in your own lifetime.
"Authorities" should never be blindly followed. Look at all the "authorities" claims about COVID, climate change, transgenderism, etc, etc for example.
