Despite several decades of anthropological work in cultures around the world, much of it done by anthropologists who had themselves been psychoanalyzed and were sympathetic to Freudian theory, there is virtually no cross-cultural evidence that supports the theory regarding the importance of childhood experience in shaping adult personality.
