Problems Due to Misuse of Sexuality

Have you ever stopped and considered the number of destructive problems we have because of the misuse of our sexuality? Not only do we have an epidemic of sexually transmitted diseases, but addiction to pornography is exploding and causing all types of problems in relationships. In many cases it is ruining people’s marriages and sex lives. Then there are so many unwanted pregnancies, which lead to abortions. There are all types of psychological and physical effects from rape, sexual abuse, sexual harassment, incest, sex trafficking of young girls, prostitution, and all the different types of sexual addictions. Finally, and most significantly, there is adultery, which often leads to divorce and the break-up of the family. It appears that sex is out of control and causing far-reaching damage to our society.

Clearly our societies’ secular view of sex is a reflection of its prevailing worldview. If our world is a product of blind, material forces, then there are no rules for sex. Therefore, it means we are free to make our own rules.  It means that sex can be just another form of recreation; it is for pleasure. In our secular worldview, our culture has no God to instruct us how to limit our lusts, our passions, and our desires. This explains how sex in our modern world has no real meaning or value. There is nothing sacred about it.

Fatherlessness Leads to Crime.

Some people, mainly on the left, think there’s nothing to see here. They’re wrong. The vast majority of incarcerated juveniles have grown up in fatherless homes. Teen and other mass murderers almost invariably have filial rupture in their biographies. Absent fathers predict higher rates of truancy, psychiatric problems, criminality, promiscuity, drug use, rape, domestic violence, and other less-than-optimal outcomes. Here’s another pertinent, albeit socially radioactive fact: Fatherlessness leads to a search for father substitutes. And some of these daddy placeholders turn out to be toxic.

Real Heroes

Modern culture is quick to label anyone a hero, to the point where the word has all but lost its meaning. Successful athletes are heroes. Honest politicians are heroes. People who return lost purses with money still in them are heroes. As Florence King has observed, all anyone has to do to become a hero in America today is fall in a hole and live to tell about it.


Today, such dilution of the title results from two forces opposing each other to an unprecedented extent One is that the world is desperate for heroes. It always has been. We want someone we can could up as an example to inspire us. We want to be part of a race that produces great people who accomplish heroic things; we want to be able to look at a hero and imagine that, with dedication and strength of character, we can be heroes too.


The opposing force, stronger no than ever, is a culture that discourages heroism. While we crave it as always, heroism, so rare in the first place, has become increasingly difficult to find. A society that embraces relativism and multiculturalism is hard pressed to produce a hero. If every view of the world is equally acceptable, there can be no absolute standards of bravery, sacrifice, patriotism, faith, truth, fairness, fidelity, and honor.


And without absolutes, there can be no heroes.

We NEED Informed Patriotism More Than Ever

An informed patriotism is what we want. Are we doing a good enough job teaching our children what America is and what she represents in the long history of the world?” 


Those of us who are over 35 or so years of age grew up in a different America. We were taught, very directly, what it means to be an American. And we absorbed, almost in the air, a love of country and an appreciation of its institutions. If you didn’t get these things from your family you got them from the neighborhood, from the father down the street who fought in Korea or the family who lost someone at Anzio. Or you could get a sense of patriotism from school. And if all else failed you could get a sense of patriotism from the popular culture. The movies celebrated democratic values and implicitly reinforced the idea that America was special. TV was like that, too, through the mid-sixties.


But now, we’re about to enter the [1990s], and some things have changed. Younger parents aren’t sure that an unambivalent appreciation of America is the right thing to teach modern children. And as for those who create the popular culture, well-grounded patriotism is no longer the style. . . . We’ve got to do a better job of getting across that America is freedom—freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of enterprise. And freedom is special and rare. It’s fragile; it needs protection.


So, we’ve got to teach history based not on what’s in fashion but what’s important—why the Pilgrims came here, who Jimmy Doolittle was, and what those 30 seconds over Tokyo meant. You know, four years ago on the 40th anniversary of D-Day, I read a letter from a young woman writing to her late father, who’d fought on Omaha Beach. . . . [S]he said, “we will always remember, we will never forget what the boys of Normandy did.” Well, let’s help her keep her word. If we forget what we did, we won’t know who we are. I’m warning of an eradication of the American memory that could result, ultimately, in an erosion of the American spirit

Marriage is Better Than Cohabiting

Compared to their married peers, cohabiters consistently have lower rates of well-being than married people. Why? Because cohabiting relationships are ambiguous. Usually each partner has a different understanding of the nature and future of the relationship. In marriage the couple is clear about the claim they have on each other. Husbands are more likely to come home after work and not stay out all night with the guys than boyfriends are. Wives and husbands are not as likely to flirt with others outside the relationship. Marriage helps them know who they belong to emotionally and sexually.

Lust vs Love

Lust is in opposition to love It means to set your heart and passions on something forbidden. And for a believer it’s the first step out of fellowship with the Lord and with others. That’s because every object of your lust—whether it’s a young coworker or a film actress, or coveting after a half-million dollar house or a sports car—represents the beginning of a lie. This person or thing that seems to promise sheer satisfaction is more like a bottomless pit of unmet longings.

Circular Reasoning is Endemic to Evolutionism

When an evolutionist looks at human DNA nucleotides, how does he know which ones are the results of mutations and which ones have remained unchanged? Obviously, to answer that question he must know what the original or ancient sequences were. Since only God is omniscient, how does the evolutionist get the information about those sequences that he believes existed millions of years ago? He uses as his guide the DNA of the chimpanzee. In other words, the studies that seek to prove that human DNA evolved from chimp DNA start with the assumption that chimp DNA represents the original condition (or close to it) from which human DNA diverged. That is circularity with a vengeance.
