Western Civilization Values Found in the Bible

Western civilization is not based on industrialization. Rather, it is founded on accepting and integrating the values found in the Bible—both the Hebrew and Christian scriptures. At the most basic level, this includes the Ten Commandments, the Torah, and the many teachings of Jesus: the rejection of enslaving other human beings; acting rightly and righteously; and, most clearly, recognizing the difference between good and evil and fighting evil whenever it raises its ugly head.

Christian Families Best For Culture

Stable natural families would be, by far, the best anti-poverty, anti-crime, and pro-education program. Thus, Christian sexual morality is integral to social justice because it protects and promotes family formation and flourishing. It is not an idiosyncratic or arbitrary religious decree or practice but, instead, is rooted in human nature and ordered toward our good and the good of those around us. Its truth and beauty are manifest in loving and enduring relationships, grounded on oaths sworn and upheld, rather than the fickle flux of day-to-day desires. This commitment provides a solid foundation for an enduring intimacy between man and wife.

Our Cultural Crisis

Much of our society’s current crisis derives from this personal refusal or inability to respect the property of others, to tell the truth, to stand up to the bully, to protect the weaker, and to end each day in contemplation that you were more a moral force for the common good than either a neutral observer or on the wrong side of the ethical ledger. When individual behavior and decorum falter, so does a country, which is, after all, only the common reflection of millions of its individuals.

Maintain Parental Authority!!!!

Maintaining parental authority—of one’s mother as much as one’s father—is central to maintaining an orderly civilization. That is why cults and totalitarian movements seek to sever parental authority. Parental authority is also a gateway to divine authority. One who honors his parents’ authority is considerably more likely to honor God’s authority.

Family vs Government

The great struggle between human beings and the state was always going to come down to the question of whether the system or the family would be the central unit of social organization. In a little over a century a question that once seemed as basic to the understanding of humanity as the differences between men and women was muddied. The government took charge of education and demanded oversight of all the nation’s children because the indoctrination of the citizenry was a vital national interest. But so was the existence or non-existence of the children.

Destroying the Family is Dangerous

The destruction of the traditional family is dangerous, and the victims are always the children involved. With divorce rates on the rise, fatherless homes plaguing our country, and an uptick in children’s poor mental health, our most defenseless have become vulnerable to harmful ideologies that continue to drive a wedge between the relationship they have left with their parents. When the relationship between child and parent is broken, the state will come in as the savior and will promise to take care of the child’s every need. This can already be seen through the public schools’ approach to care for the “whole child.”

LEFTISTS Despise Family

One can look in history or in literature to see the danger of where the idea of supplanting the family might lead. Study the education practices that existed in the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany and that exist today in Communist China. Or read the terrifying account in Orwell’s 1984. They tell us that children, by distorting their natural desire to grow up and end their dependence, can be recruited to the purposes of despotic regimes, even to the extent of denouncing their parents to the state.

What Destroyed Many Baby-Boomers From the Beginning

In addition to growing up in abundance, the boom generation also was raised on the theories of the best-selling book of all time, Dr. Benjamin Spock’s Common Sense Book of Baby and Child Care (1946). Spock, thoroughly steeped in psychoanalysis and Freudianism, had been a Coolidge Republican in early adulthood, but along with his wife had moved steadily leftward, advocating positions that would have made Coolidge quiver. He advised parents to refrain from disciplining their children and to let children determine when and where everything took place, from bathroom habits to education. American homes overnight became child-centered, whereas spanking and other physical discipline was viewed as psychologically unhealthy. The dangerous combination of material comfort and loose control made for a generation that lacked toughness, one that literally fell apart under the pressures of civil rights, the Vietnam War, and economic stagnation. Not surprisingly, boomers turned to drugs and sex in record numbers, and divorce among the generation skyrocketed.

Fatherlessness Ruins Lives

In the black community, two-parent households are becoming an endangered species. Census data reveal that about 40 percent of all Americans children (regardless of race) are born out of wedlock; that number jumps to 53 percent for Hispanics and 71 percent for blacks. The Great Society programs of the 1960s, which did nothing to cut the poverty rate, implemented rules that inadvertently punished two-parent households, creating a disincentive for families to stay together.  As a result, black children today are less likely to grow up with their mother and father than black children born during the time of slavery.

Victimhood

Victimhood mentality blames “white privilege” for the plight of American minorities. Privilege does indeed exist in America today, but it is not white privilege. It’s “two-parent” privilege.

Study after study has shown the long-term socioeconomic benefits children enjoy when they come from a stable two-parent household. Kids who grow up in a home without a father are four times as likely to end up poor as kids in two-parent homes. Kids who grow up in a two-parent household have a lower risk of teen pregnancy. They do better in school, and they commit less crime. And according to the Brookings Institution people who finish high school, hold down a full-time job, and wait until they are at least twenty-one to get married and have kids (in that order) avoid poverty at a 98 percent clip—regardless of race.

Children, Honor Your Parents

Yet another reason why honoring parents and long enduring civilization are connected is strong families form a major bulwark against totalitarian regimes. A standard feature of totalitarian regimes is the shifting of children’s loyalty and obedience from their parents to the state. One of the first things totalitarian regimes seek to do is weaken parental authority and replace it with the party or state. In such countries, children are encouraged to inform on their parents if they make critical comments—or even tell jokes—about government leaders or about the dominant ideology (in the modern period, that would almost always refer to communism, Nazism, or radical Islamism). Consequently, parents would often fear to speak openly in front of their children.

What Is Needed for Stable Civilization

Where you do not have stable marriage
and you do not have stable parenthood,
and you do not have stable families,
you cannot have a stable economic system,
you cannot have a stable social system,
and you cannot have a stable civilization.

How Can Wrong Be Right?

The father who carefully protects and guards his virgin daughter’s ears from every polluting word takes her to the theater himself, exposing her to all its vile language and attitudes….. How can it be right to look at the things that are wrong to do? How can those things which defile a man when they go out of his mouth not defile him when going in through his eyes and ears?

Marriage Helps Children's Education

Stable marriage has a powerful impact on children’s education. Research has consistently shown that children raised by their own two married parents do better in school than children in other family forms. For example, about one out of four children in both single-mother and blended families repeat a grade in school, compared to only one in seven children in intact married families. About a quarter of children in mother-only families and 18 percent of children in blended families have been suspended or expelled, compared to less than 10 percent of children from intact marriages. A 15-year study of 2,000 married people and their children by Paul Amato and Alan Booth found that even after controlling for marital quality, income, race and family background, parental divorce reduced adult children’s educational attainment, occupational status, and increased the risk of economic hardship in their adult lives. Children in single-mother homes are significantly less likely to complete high school, attend or graduate from college than either children in intact married families or children in widowed families (even after controlling for race, gender, and maternal education). Children raise outside of intact marriages are also only half as likely to attend a selective college, even after controlling for income and parental education.

How can the marriage of parents contribute to their children's education and future productivity? Parents contribute to their children's development of social skills that are valuable to schools and employers--punctuality, self-discipline, honesty, tolerance for frustration, diligence, reliability, respect for others. On average two married parents have twice the time, energy, financial security, and personal skills as well, reading to young children, helping with homework, reinforcing patterns (like regular breakfast and early bedtime) that help children learn. The tastes, values and skills of parents influence their children's success in school and in the world of work.

When Children Do Not Honor Parents

A society in which children do not honor their parents will rapidly lose the means through which the society’s culture, religion, and ethics can be transmitted, and thus will soon disintegrate.

Family Is Still the Building Block of Society

The methodical, deliberate redefinitions of terms such as life, gender, marriage, identity, etc. and the replacement of critical institutions, like the family and the faith community, with the government, have created the new normal. Many citizens now look to government programs to fulfill needs and solve problems, releasing them from a sense of personal responsibility or ownership and lessening dependence upon family.

Today, one’s identity is warped into a social construct permitted by some conjured up “right” to reject biology. Marriage, similarly, has been redefined to make a political point instead of its purpose as a key in a healthy society to procreate and provide sustenance and support. These reckless maneuvers borne on the political Left aimed to establish a more “progressive” society are, in fact, resulting in its destruction and material harm to individuals. …

The Left demands “educational equity” in schools but won’t dare touch the facts that children do better when parents are their first teachers, and a home is comprised of a mom and a dad. The “liberated” women of the Left, now even more angry and militant than ever, seem to thrive in the newly defined male persona of either an effeminate and compliant being or excessive in masculinity that translates into violent, oppressive, and sexist behavior. As noted in the June 2014 edition of the Institute for Family Studies, these women, united in their grievances, completely disregard social science that demonstrates “daughters whose fathers have been actively engaged throughout childhood in promoting their academic or athletic achievements and encouraging their self-reliance and assertiveness are more likely to graduate from college and to enter the higher-paying, more demanding jobs traditionally held by males.”

Liberalism Cannot Live with Traditional Schooling

Just as communism was not possible with families adhering to the feudal-patriarchal system, so liberal democracy is believed to be incomplete and unsuccessful with schools respecting traditional moral and cultural authoritarianism. The arguments are analogous. Just as a person coming from a noncommunist community could not become a full-fledged, dedicated, and efficient citizen of the communist state, so a graduate of a traditional school will never be a faithful and reliable citizen of the liberal-democratic state.

Why Liberals Want Gay “Marriage”

When the institution of marriage is compromised; when single mothers proliferate and are even applauded; when children are separated or alienated from their parents; when the bonds of heterosexual intimacy are breached; when gender politics sabotages concord between the sexes; when same-sex couples receive the same rights, privileges, and rewards as child-bearing couples; and when matrimony becomes the prerogative of any group whatsoever with no relation to fecundity or cultural stability, the underpinnings of Western society will inevitably collapse.

This is why Marxism, for example, considers marriage an institution that needs to be destroyed, since procreant marriage with all its attendant responsibilities is the foundation of bourgeois society.  This is why its dissolution or misprision is a prerequisite for the revolutionary socialist state in which the pivotal loyalty of the individual belongs to the sovereign collective, not to the family.  And this is why calling two men or two women in a union "marriage" has been serially championed by the left.

Toxic Masculinity?

We take a young man and kick his father out of his life, send him to school where he has mostly women teachers, barrage him with negative messages about masculinity, then turn him loose at college where we treat him like a guilty-until-proven-innocent rapist, and after all that, we blame "masculinity" when he goes off the rails despite the fact that he spent a lifetime bathed in femininity. Unsurprisingly, the more women try to change masculinity, the more negative and toxic it actually becomes.

The Call of Parents

Our call is to bring up children in a home where two parents love and care for one another, and where we treat each other with kindness, forgiveness, and love. The significance of this call stems from the eternal truth that God established the family, and he is the one who issues the call. He calls us daily to give, “courageous action and suffering love.” If the family is going to survive we must take this call seriously.

There are several practical ways to respond to our high calling. One that must remain a top priority is to make sure we always keep the romance alive and growing in our marriage relationship. We must take time for giving and making love. If we do not love our partner as much as we would like to, we can ask God to put a greater love in our heart for him or her. … Along with keeping romance alive, and love growing, comes the equal necessity of having fun together as a family. …

The crowning touch of this call is learning the importance of become thankful people within our families. I believe an ungrateful attitude is responsible for much unhappiness in today’s homes. … Have we forgotten what it means to feel thankful toward each other today? Do we understand how important it is to genuinely appreciate one another and to treat each family member with gentle kindness and a thankful heart?
