The Need for Wisdom

One must study wisdom to know how to do good, just as much as one must study physics to know how to do physics. If you are taught wisdom, there's a good chance you will become wise. If not, there's a good chance you will be a fool. And fools do a great deal of harm. 

But wisdom is no longer taught by most parents and nearly all schools.

Until the early decades of the 20th century, American students were expected to know the greatest sources of wisdom -- the ancient Greek and Roman writers, Shakespeare and, most important of all, the Bible.

But about 100 years ago, America embarked on the road to hell when it stopped teaching wisdom -- and what wisdom is all about, moral virtue -- when it secularized all education. First the universities and then the lower grades decided that knowledge could substitute for wisdom. Now American young people get no wisdom and, for that matter, little knowledge.

It is not a coincidence that the most foolish institutions in America and the rest of the West are the universities. They are the most radically secular.

You don't have to be religious to realize that the most secular institutions are also the most foolish institutions. You just need not to be a fool.

Good, Ethical Role Models Needed

What society really needs more of is good, trustworthy, ethical role models in leadership positions. Not needed are untrustworthy woke role models who are graduating from a failing, increasingly dogmatic, ideological, and misguided public educational system which now includes public colleges and universities. Education is failing miserably on many counts. Only time will tell whether individualized, interactive, audio-visual computer instruction will rescue education from its deterioration, especially in poor, crime-ridden neighborhoods.

Principles Are Needed to Guide One's Life

The Purpose of Education

The purpose of education is twofold: To teach students useful skills needed in life, but just as important, to teach students how to live which is what good character is all about.

Public education is failing miserably on both counts. Real Women Needed

The female body is a powerful thing. Anyone in advertising knows this. The mere sight of Bathsheba coupled with David’s failure to walk away and control his thoughts changed the course not only of King David’s life but the lives of countless others. Young women are shown early and often how to harness their sexuality, but too few are told to guard their body and their heart. Too few are told the truth about the physical and emotional toll of casual sex.

Our daughters deserve a mother and a father in their home and a host of adults in their life who tell them and show them women are to be treated with respect. Women who do not treat themselves with respect do not demand others do so; women have been told for decades they can and should have casual sex and they can and should fear no consequences, even and especially if a child is a consequence. Countering this damaging rhetoric is incredibly difficult for the increasingly rare parent who is swimming against the cultural tide.

Pornography is Immoral

Porn is immoral because porn treats persons as a means to an end, one’s own self-centered gratification. But at what undesirable cost? Porn isn’t simply “satisfying” lustful desires. It also shapes our view of sex taken into the marriage bed (if marriage is ever consummated) and objectifies women, among other things. Indeed, it is also linked not only to rape but to sex trafficking as its metaphorical “gateway drug.” When we watch, we inspire the demand. While not every pornographer (anyone addicted to porn) is a sex trafficker, every sex trafficker is a pornographer. Porn is the gateway to the sex trade industry. We supply its demand, and the providers cater to our “need.” Yet, the need is insatiable as it continues to grow and take on a life of its own to include and normalize Freud’s polymorphous perversity: sex with animals, sex with multiples, sex with kids, sex with robots, and so on and so forth to include increasingly violent sex.

Sexuality itself becomes identity. It becomes associated if not identified with who or what I am. Ultimately, it’s not all about sex. It’s much deeper. The sexual revolution on steroids with which we’re now seeing and was predicted is a symptom of the search for human identity, meaning, and significance, i.e., the quest for what it means to be human. This quest is orphaned when we kill God, and anything goes in His place. The existential quest is always a quest for “God,” but the “God” many seek is one made in man’s image.

Assault Weapons?

Now, let’s define a couple of terms yet again. “Assault weapon” is a bogus term deployed by the Left (and adopted by too many on the Right) to describe semiautomatic rifles that look scary because of certain cosmetic features. They are not machine guns. They do not spray bullets the way they’re sometimes depicted in movies and television. Sporting rifles like the AR-15 function in exactly the same way as many other (more powerful) hunting rifles and the vast majority of handguns — one trigger pull fires one bullet.

“High-capacity magazines” are, in fact, standard-capacity mags. Democrats want a limit of 10 rounds, even though virtually every normal size pistol magazine holds more than that. AR-15s come standard with 30-round magazines. If you’re in one of the millions of annual self-defense situations in America, especially if you’re facing a home invasion by more than one attacker, you’d probably be grateful to have more than 10 rounds. Labeling these magazines as “high-capacity” is nothing more than an effort to scare people who know nothing about guns.

1920s Symptoms of Moral Decline

The trend toward credit living may be a symptom of moral decline, an attempt to consume what you have not produced. At most times, of course, there are those who live beyond their means, but this does not necessarily become a matter of public morality.  There is greed involved in all cases, but it becomes institutionalized greed when government organs foster an ongoing credit expansion. But there were other symptoms in the 1920s.

One of the symptoms was the decline of the influence of the family in the bringing up of children. There were several sources of this declining influence. One was the separation of much of the family during a goodly portion of the day. As more and more men (and sometimes women as well) worked away from families in factory, mine, and office, they were separated from them during most of the waking hours. Compulsory school attendance took children away from the homes during longer and longer portions of the year, as the school year was extended. The automobile provided a means for young people to escape quickly from the watchful eyes of parents or people in the local community. The radio initially provided family entertainment and may even have enlivened family life, but movies provided a largely alien influence to that of the family. National radio networks and Hollywood-made movies were nationwide in scope and only limitedly subject to local and family influence. The emancipation of women, signaled by the 19th Amendment and ratified in the 1920s by “flappers,” and shortened hemlines, was registered by increasingly common divorces.

"Transgender" Is A Sexual Menace

Marriage Is Only Acknowledged By State and Church--They Don't Decide If It Is Bonafide

The roles of the state and church, although important, are external to the troth relationship itself. In more recent times by means of a marriage license (and bill of divorce) the state, concerned to safeguard marriage, simply acknowledges the life (or death) of a marriage. If a couple are in Christ, they seek the blessing and support of the cultic worship community. A minister does not marry the couple; he only acknowledges that in their vowed promise God marries them. A wedding ceremony is the rite by which a couple, seeking support and sharing joy, publicly pledge their troth in the presence of God, friends, family, church, state, and enter marriage.
